About

I was born in Miami, FL and grew up in Guatemala City, Guatemala. I began to experiment with photography as a teenager, first learning darkroom processes for black and white photography and then continuing with digital photography. I have a background in performing arts as well, practicing various disciplines since I was young.  I attended Stanford University, majoring in Psychology (Mind, Culture, and Society) and minoring in Art Practice and Film & Media Studies.

My academic focus throughout university was mostly on design, visual culture and the relationship between media and society, specifically in how it shapes the way people think. I’ve also expanded my own body of work as a photographer and filmmaker. I’m still discovering how these interests factor into my artistic practice and how they can enrich it, specifically because I’m accustomed to working from an analytical perspective and desire to translate my ideas into work I can produce.

As a photographer, I’ve always been drawn to composition, geometry, light, and color. I have a tendency to make somewhat abstract, formal images, so the aesthetic qualities of the photographs I make have always taken priority. This is something that I am currently trying to move away from as I look for meaning in my work. I studied people on a daily basis as a psychology major, but my photographs are surprisingly devoid of people. The images are more about capturing a certain mood or energy in a very introspective way. Recently, I’ve begun to work with mirrors and other materials that evoke an existential aura and question our sense of being and place.
